National Park Service Ranger Steve Phan will be at the Sherman House Museum for a presentation on Camp Nelson in Nicholasville, KY. The camp was a US Army fortified base, supply depot, and hospital established in 1863.

The base evolved to become one of the country’s largest recruitment and training centers for black soldiers during the Civil War and served as a refugee camp for their wives and children.

Today it is a national monument.
